Khalid Kabeer Appointed CEO of Vitas Group

Vitas Group has appointed Khalid Kabeer as Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1st, 2021.  Mr. Kabeer recently served as the Chief Operating Officer of the group. Mr. Kabeer will replace Elissa LaBorde, who is leaving Vitas after spending more than 16 years with the organization.

“The Vitas Group Management Committee met to discuss the transition and replacement of the Vitas Group CEO, after Ms. LaBorde’s departure. It was a unanimous decision to confirm Vitas COO Khalid Kabeer as the CEO of Vitas Group,” said David Weiss, Chairman of the Vitas Group Management Committee.

Mr. Kabeer brings over 18 years of cross-functional experience in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) lending. As Vitas Group’s COO, he has been responsible for the execution of its global business strategy and execution in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. During the last two years, Mr. Kabeer led the process of redefining the vision and spearheading an ambitious long-term shift to a data-centric, digital-first lending model for MSMEs. He has been instrumental in the group’s digital transformation and resultant change management as well as the establishment of Vitas Ventures, an early stage fintech venture investment portfolio.

“I am very pleased to have this opportunity to lead Vitas Group, an extraordinary team of over 1300 members. Our vision is to serve unserved and underserved MSMEs by providing them data-driven, client-centric financial services to sustain and create new jobs,” said Mr. Kabeer.

Prior to joining Vitas Group, Mr. Kabeer led the transformation of small enterprise lending operations of Kashf Foundation into Kashf Microfinance Bank. He was instrumental in establishing the bank in 2007 and served as its first CFO. Previously, he served as the CFO of Kashf Foundation, one of the largest microfinance institutions in Pakistan.  During this time, he raised debt from commercial banks, the first transaction of its kind in microfinance in Pakistan.

Vitas Group is the largest commercial retail microfinance operation in the Middle East. Over the last two decades, Vitas’ subsidiaries have disbursed over $3 billion dollars at a less than 1% annual default rate to small business owners. Vitas employs over 1,300 local staff in Romania, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, and Egypt, along with a dedicated IT hub in Serbia.
